At last, Nigeria is about doing one great thing that is required to be done, but has not
been done. It is a mighty move that will foster unity, love and progress and most importantly genuine godliness in our national
life. It is the NATIONAL THANKSGIVING DAY FESTIVAL. It is for the nation and the people.
The National Thanksgiving Day is designed to bring the entire nation together, irrespective of religion, creed or tribe
in a collective reflection of our past, of God's bountiful mercies and endowments to us and then respond to him in an outburst
of praise, appreciation and thanksgiving.
The festival is conceived by Rev. (Dr.) Ifeanyi Omife and host of other Nigerians across religious and ethnic divide
seek to engage the adherent of the two major religions, Islam and Christianity, respectively, to tackle the problems of disunity,
intolerance, mutual suspicion, hatred which led us to the lack of the desired patriotism among Nigerians. The first attempt
is to experiment our love for God through a festival of thanksgiving which took place in 2002, though very low keyed.
The organizers have since reached out to the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), the Supreme Council for Islamic
Affairs in Nigeria (SCIAN) and other critical Stakeholders, who are not only consulted but adequately represented east time
the body meets.
It was at one of such meetings that a decision was taken to have an annual carnival of festival to appreciate the mercies
of God over our nation. The festival will include activities like reflective seminars and prayers, carnival procession in
all the states of the federation, including the federal capital territory, and the lighting of the unity flame of love starting
with FCT Minister, 36 states Governors and finally the President of the Federation. All of these are actions expressing our
love for God, our nation and ourselves.
Its is our believe that these line of activities if properly implemented will go a long way to attract, unite and gather
all the pieces of the diversities of our nationhood into a big resolve for a new beginning of righteousness (which exalts
a nation), unity, patriotism and true love for one another
